Wow, what a sweet rig! This is my second rc rock crawler. I got a Scorpion RTR to mess around with and then got this Tamiya Land Cruiser CR01 as a project. I spent a couple of weeks on and off building the Land Cruiser 40 which gave me a chance to mess around with the Scorpion on the rocks so I had some experience when it was finally time to give the Land Cruiser a go I was pleasantly surprised that is worked as well or better than the Scorpion RTR in many conditions and on different surfaces.

I set up my CR-01 with a Novak Rooster Crawler ESC, Integy 55 turn crawler motor, JR Synthesized Receiver and a couple of World Spec GP 3300 Battery packs left over from my Associated TC4 race days. Great Packs!

I am running the JR XS3 Pro on this rig and really like the adjustability of that radio. It is a couple of years old at this point and not the trendy 2.4GHz that is popular now but the 75MHz frequency spectrum is still fond for surface use.

More info about this rig from Tamiya:

The CR-01 dedicated crawler chassis features a heavy-duty ladder frame with strong yet lightweight pressed aluminum channels and resin cross members. The space saved by mounting a compact planetary gearbox enables the battery to be located lower on the chassis for optimum center of gravity.

The CR-01 has a planetary gearbox that comes with a 20T pinion gear for a 40.5:1 gear ratio. Separately available 16T-25T pinion gears can be installed for gear ratios ranging from 50.6:1 to 32.4:1. Kit also includes a 540 type motor while 2-channel R/C system, ESC, and7.2V battery & charger are separately required

4-link coil spring suspension provides the flexibility needed to conquer difficult rocky terrain. Inboard dampers are connected to suspension via linkages, which are then connected via stabilizer torsion bar to provide sure-footed balance.

Newly designed 3-piece beadlock wheels are mounted with massive rock crawler tires with125mm diameter and 56mm width. These work together with the suspension system to generate an impressive amount of ground clearance.

The CR-01 makes a great scale crawler and recently Tamiya released another body for the CR-01, The UNiMog!!
