Info below from Al at the MARCS club.

The 2007 1.5 m HAND LAUNCH CONTEST will be held at Paul’s Turf and Tree Nursery near Marshall (same place as usual). This relatively low key event provides a hands on competition for these little gliders. Newcomers to this aspect of flying are encouraged to participate in this fun event. You can gain a lot of flight experience with the typical hand launch tasks and contest format. The contest is flown man-on-man by rounds, and typically involves activity by all competitors during each round. We encourage on-lookers to come watch and even get involved as timers.

The contest is limited to sailplanes with wingspans of 1.5 meters or less.

The use of a substitute human launcher is permissible. In the spirit of past contests, short high starts are provided for those whose arms or backs are not that athletically capable. The rubber and length of line on these high starts will be the same as last years: long enough to give a high-starter a good launch, but not a competitive advantage.

Hand launch tasks require that the hand must be holding onto the model while it is being launched by hand, and the clock starts when the model leaves the hand. When using a high-start, the clock begins when the model leaves the high-start.

Membership in AMA is required and unless noted otherwise all AMA regulations and policies will be in effect. A non-member can compete if he/she submits a membership form (available from the CD) and AMA fees to the contest director on the day of the contest.

PILOTS BRIEFING at 9:30 A.M. with the first flight at 10:00 A.M.
