Got the radio control drifting bug watching a few online videos and decided that the first car I'd try this interesting sideways form of rc driving with is my new Associated RC 18R rally car. Two reasons prompted me to give this car a go first.
1. The ABS drifting tires I ordered for my Associated TC4 have not arrived yet. 2. Easy to do. All I had to do was wrap some Scotch/3M black electrical tape around the stock tires. It works great!

After playing around on the street in front of my house for a couple of charges I took it to the sidewalk and was actually able to run mini laps on the 3-foot wide concrete!
One thing I am experimenting with is how much of the tires to cover with tape. I started covering the whole tread but have changed to full coverage rear and leaving a 1/4 inch or so of tread on the front tires rubber to help the front hook up. It was pushing quite a bit at higher speeds and I want that nice opposite lock 20 foot arch going! Probably can monkey with the spring rates and shock oil as well but for now this is working.
One thing that amazes me is the durability of the tape. Our street is asphalt and I've run around for a couple of hours so far and the tape, while scratched, is still going strong.
