Dremel Stylus Cordless Rotary Tool

When I first saw the Dremel Stylus, a cordless rotary tool, I knew I had to try it because it incorporates a couple of features I've been looking for:

  • Variable speed
  • Easy to hold grip
  • Cordless
  • Lithium powered for long run times
  • Uses standard Dremel bits
I originally picked this Dremel tool up after Christmas 2006 and have about 9 months of use on it. It is great. Out of half a dozen Dremels it is the one I use most often for modeling.

Specifically, the Dremel Stylus has a speed range of 5,000 to 25,000 and a 7.2-Volt Lithium Cordless Rotary Tool with Docking Station. It is Dremel Sylus is Model # 1100-01.

Thanks to the lithium-ion battery technology, once the 7.2-volt battery has been charged it can retain a charge for up to 18 months. However, I doubt this tool will be set aside for long! It is fast becoming my favorite.

The first thing I noticed about this particular Dremel is that it has a sort of pistol grip. Different than my other half dozen Dremels including my current favorite the Lithium Ion powered Model 8000. The soft pistol grip housing fits comfortably in the hand and is balanced great for me.

The docking station not only holds the Stylus when not in use but also recharges the battery to provide long-lasting, and ready, performance. it even has some storage for bits although in my case the charger is nowhere near my work area. Some of the most commonly used quick change bits are included in a handy storage case.

Hopefully it is obvious that I am a huge fan of Dremel rotary tools for building and working on my rc slope planes. Of course Dremel tools are great for a lot of other projects but that is just icing on the cake. If you need to grind, cut, sharpen, polish, engrave, or to clean intricate parts, the Dremel Rotary Tools will get the job done.

What came in the Box?

Stylus tool, docking station, one #191 high speed cutter, one #194 high speed cutter, one #106 engraving cutter, one #7144 diamond wheel point, one #84922 silicone carbide Grinding Stone, one #403 bristle brush, two #414 polishing felt wheels, two #429 polishing felt wheels, one #425 emery impregnated wheel, one #421 polishing compound, one #512 abrasive buff, one #430 sanding band, two #438 sanding bands, five #412 sanding discs, one #401 mandrel, one #402 mandrel, one 3/32-inch collet, wrench and case.
